Mayor Hooker Resigns

City Councilor Mike Anderson read a letter of resignation from Mayor Bob Hooker. The tone of his letter was one of anger and disappointment with the people of Creswell. He put a lot of blame out there and seemed to take no responsibility of his own.

He mentioned not being negative, not believing he could be treated this way, etc. Mr. Hooker can continue to blame everyone else or maybe use this opportunity to reflect on his term as mayor. He might ask himself, have I ever hurt anyone at a public meeting unnecessarily? Have I sat down with people before reprimanding, was I willing to listen before acting? Did I get caught up in the self importance of being mayor? There are these and many questions he could ask himself or he can continue to blame everyone else.

We would like to believe Mr. Hooker would use this experience to grow and improve on the way he does things, mostly interaction with others and their feelings. Maybe now, he will feel just a little of how he made others feel. Might even be a good time to sit with some of those he felt were unfair to him and have a conversation. It could be a healing thing for others as well.

Watch the reading of his resignation letter.

City Elections

Congratulations to our new Mayor David Stram and Councilors Jacob Daniels, Jane Vincent and Nora Reynolds. You are the people’s choice after a hard fought campaign. So many are looking forward to a new way of doing business within our government and at council meetings.

The people of Creswell can be proud for a number of reasons. First, they have truly become involved with the election process. It was exciting to see so many people at the VFW and again at the high school to meet the candidates. The people asked good questions and for the most part received good answers. Next, they can be ever so proud of our local newspaper under the new and improved management. The people of Creswell have finally been told the truth about many things going on in our government. Jeanne Olson put up with a great deal of aggravation in the process.

Now is the time to support our new Mayor Stram and Councilors. Please keep your ideas and thoughts coming, we enjoy hearing from you. Let’s hope that most of the news about our NEW government is positive. With your help, it will be. Let’s move on.
